Sometimes you need another voice to guide your practice or a little inspiration to plan your classes. Back in the day when you wanted to take a yoga class without leaving the comfort of your home, you pulled out a DVD (or VHS!). Sure, it was the same thing over and over but it was the only option. Maybe you had an entire collection of DVDs, but that still didn’t guarantee that you could find the exact practice you needed on a given day.
With the invention of streaming video, those days are over. DVDs are still a great resource and back up for when the internet goes down, but for searchability and variety these online yoga class websites can’t be beat. Video classes will never replace the experience of a live class, but for days when you need a quick practice or inspiration or if you live far from other teachers, these websites are an amazing resource.
You can also share this list with your students when they ask about DVDs.
Yoga Glo
Yoga Glo is my personal favorite of the online yoga class websites. High quality teachers, good clear video, and an easy to use website. Classes are filmed in their Santa Monica yoga studio for a consistent feel & quality across all the videos. They can be searched by style, physical focus, duration, teacher, or level. Their offerings include pose tutorials, yoga for athletes, short practices, and full length classes. A 15 day free trial, after that $18/month. They have about 15 regular teachers, most of whom are well known outside of yogaglo.
Yoga Today
Yoga today is the original online yoga class website (at least the first one I knew about). Most of their classes are filmed outdoors in the Grand Tetons and the setting is gorgeous. Their free membership includes one free class per week (their choice, changes each week) or pay $3.99/ to download the class of your choice to keep. Paid membership is $9.99/month and includes streaming of any video in their library or $2.99/video to download for keeps. They have 3 instructors who have been with them since the beginning. You can search classes by skill level, focus, or instructor.
Yoga Vibes
Yoga Vibes classes are filmed on location in studios around the country. They can be searched by style, focus, length, and difficulty. The focus with by far the most videos is ‘crazy sweaty flow’. 15 day free trial, after that $20/month for full access to their library. They have a very wide variety of teachers who have mostly done just a few videos each including very well known teachers such as Ana Forrest and Erich Schiffman as well as teachers who are less known beyond their own communities.
Yogi’s Anonymous is a yoga studio that films and streams all their classes. The live classes and a selection of 4 others are free to stream. To access their class library costs $15/month. Classes are searchable by teacher, level, length, and keyword.
Do you know of any other resources for online yoga videos? Which ones are your favorites and what do you like about them?
